Visa exemption for German
The Resolution No. 54/NQ-CP of Vietnam Government allows Germany passport holders (including both German residents and German nationals in other countries) to travel to Vietnam without visa.
In such case, the 2 following conditions must be met:
- The traveler holds a passport which is valid for at least 6 months since the arrival date to Vietnam
- The date of arrival is at least 30 days after the departure date of the latest visa-free stay
- The longest length of stay is 15 days
If a German intends to stay more than 15 days in Vietnam, he is required to get a Vietnam visa.

Vietnam Government has signed visa exemption agreements with ASEAN countries. According to those agreements’ terms, nationals of 2 countries can travel to each other’s territory with no visa requirement. Length of stay is different from country to country as following:
Visa exemption to Phu Quoc island
Phu Quoc Island in Kien Giang Province is considered as Special Economic Zone where Vietnam visa exemption is applied to all nationalities. Foreigners can stay legally up to 30 days as long as these requirements are met:
- Validity of passport is 6 months at least
- Not in the list of Interpol’s wanted
- Have not ever been expelled from Vietnam
30-day visa exemption is also applied to cases of transition through an airport or seaport en-route to Phu Quoc as long as this island is the end destination and return ticket to another country is shown.
